Connotado viajero y escritor árabe. Recibió una educación jurídica y literaria tradicional en Tánger. Luego de un peregrinaje a La Meca (1325), decidió recorrer tantos lugares del mundo como le fuera posible, jurando "jamás recorrer un camino por segunda vez. Sus 27 años de travesías por África, Asia y Europa abarcaron unos 120.000 km (75.000 mi). A su regreso dictó sus memorias, las que se transformaron en uno de los libros de viaje más famosos del mundo, el RiFONT face=Tahomaḥlah (o "Diario de ruta).
